🎤 MEDA 4342 Global Media Guest Speaker: Kathryn Hartzell, PhD Candidate, University of Texas at Austin
Global Media Online
12 p.m. – 1 p.m. | Bay Hall 126 & Zoom

In this guest lecture, Kathryn Hartzell illustrates how Indian marketers working on behalf of the English Premier League (EPL) and its member clubs produce new sports media texts for Indian audiences. She shows how marketing firms act as cultural translators between an English sports organization and Indian audiences even as they also function as producers, creating new localized sports media.

Marketing firms have a long and understudied history of producing sports media content for international markets. Through a case study of the marketing firm Engage Digital Partners’ work for English football club Chelsea FC in India, Hartzell illustrates some of the important ways such firms contribute to transnational sports distribution.
